Synopsis[]

Industrial Foregoing is a mod that adds many machines to the game which serve a wide variety of purposes. These machines largely help the player to automate processes which are difficult or impossible to automate in vanilla Minecraft such as lava production, crop farming, animal husbandry, and ore collection.

Disclaimer[]

This guide is organized in a very similar way to the Industrial Foregoing’s in-game guide. This is intentional. The Industrial Foregoing’s in-game guide has a very natural categorization of the mod’s components. With that said, the Industrial Foregoing’s in-game guide has a lot of shortcomings and failed in many aspects to teach me what I wanted to know when I first started out with Industrial Foregoing. This is largely the reason I wrote this guide.

Getting Started[]

Industrial Foregoing adds a new resource called Plastic to the game. Plastic is used in essentially all Industrial Foregoing crafting recipes so it is important that you have a good supply. Plastic production is a three step process which can be fully automated.

  1. Place down a Tree Fluid Extractor. Place any type of log in front of the face with the animation. The Tree Fluid Extractor will slowly consume the log, turning it into liquid latex.
  2. Pump the liquid latex out of the Tree Fluid Extractor into a Latex Processing Unit. This can be done with Cyclic Fluid Extraction Cables. The Latex Processing Unit needs to be supplied with power, water, and liquid latex. Once it has all of these inputs, it will produce Tiny Dry Rubber. Put 9 Tiny Dry Rubber into a crafting grid to produce Dry Rubber.
  3. Smelt the Dry Rubber from the previous step to produce plastic.

From this point on, there is no real “progression.” There are a whole bunch of machines which do a whole bunch of useful things. It is time to explore the possibilities.

An Overview Of Machines[]

Right clicking on any machine will open its interface. All machines have a series of colored boxes in the bottom left corner of their GUI corresponding to all parts of the machine’s inventory. Hovering over these squares with your mouse will highlight the corresponding part of the inventory while right clicking on them will allow the player to configure what sides of the machine can take input/give output to that section of the inventory. Many machines also have a series of teal slots on the right side of its GUI. These are addon slots. Hover over a machine in the JEI while pressing shift to see what addons it supports.

Generators[]

Generators include any machines which generate power (RF) given some input. In the JEI, press U while hovering your mouse over any of the following machines to pull up a list of all of the compatible fuels, their burn times, and how much power they produce.

Petrified Fuel Generator: Turns any “solid fuel” into power. Examples include wood, coal, charcoal, wool, and blaze rods.

Biofuel Generator: Turns liquid Biofuel into power. Liquid Biofuel can be obtained using a Bioreactor (below)

Protein Generator: Turns liquid Protein into power. Liquid Protein can be obtained using a Protein Reactor (below)

Pitiful Fuel Generator: Turns wooden items and blocks into power. The rates are identical to those of the Petrified Fuel Generator.

Energy Field Provider: Functionally provides power wirelessly within a certain range. Right click on an Energy Field Provider with an Energy Field Addon to link them. Place the linked Energy Field Addon into any machine’s addon slot. The Energy Field Provider will charge all Energy Field Addons in its range, powering the machines they are in. The default range is 5 blocks from the Energy Field Provider, but a Range Addon can be put into one of its addon slots to increase its range by that many blocks. The max Range Addon is +11.

Agriculture[]

Agricultural additions include machines which deal with planting, growing, harvesting, and enhancing crops in any way. Most of these machines are designed to work together in order to completely automate farming processes. All of these machines require power to run.

Plant Sower: Plants supplied seeds onto the block directly above it when possible.

Plant Fertilizer: Bonemeals crops directly in front of it when supplied with fertilizer (bonemeal or Industrial Foregoing Fertilizer).

Plant Gatherer: Harvests full grown crops and trees in front of it. Produces liquid Sludge as a byproduct. The tree harvesting functionality does not work reliably with modded trees; cutting down sky_orchards trees with the Plant Gatherer yielded no acorns.

Plant Interactor: Interacts with plants in front of it as if they were right clicked by the player. Any harvested drops are moved into its inventory if possible, creating liquid Sludge as a byproduct. The Plant Interactor replants the harvested crop, but does not collect the drops whereas the Plant Gatherer collects the drops but does not replant the crop.

Sludge Refiner: The reason that this machine is included in this section is because the only way to obtain Sludge is with the Plant Gatherer or Plant Interactor (above). Turns liquid Sludge into a random assortment of items including clay, dirt, gravel, mycelium, podzol, sand, red sand, and soul sand.

Hydrator: Hydrates all farmland one block below its y level and 3 blocks in all horizontal directions.

Spores Recreator: Given water and mushrooms, grows more mushrooms internally.

Animal Husbandry[]

The Animal Husbandry section describes machines which deal with passive mobs. All of these machines require energy to run.

Animal Baby Separator: Moves baby animals from the block in front of it to the block behind it. You can give it an Adult Filter to move adult animals instead of baby animals.

Animal Feeder: Breeds animals which are on the block in front of it using food given as an input. The input must be the correct food type (pigs eat carrots, cows eat wheat, etc).

Animal Grower: Feeds baby animals on the block in front of it to make them grow faster. Requires a compatible input food (pigs eat carrots, cows eat wheat, etc).

Animal Rancher: Harvests resources from animals on the block in front of it. This includes shearing sheep, milking cows, and collecting ink sacs from squid. Does not require tools to do these actions.

Animal Sewer: Collects liquid Sewage from animals in the block space directly above the Animal Sewer. This Sewage can be turned into fertilizer using a Sewage Composter (below).

Sewage Composter: Turns supplied liquid Sewage into Fertilizer. Fertilizer can be used as bonemeal.

Resources Fisher: Automatically fishes when placed over a source block of water. Can find loot like enchanted books just like when the player fishes.

Magic[]

Enchantment Sorter: Sorts input items into two different inventories; enchanted and unenchanted. These two inventories can be configured to exit the Enchantment Sorter from different sides, allowing for items to be sorted automatically into much larger inventories. Requires power.

Enchantment Extractor: Takes the top enchantment off a supplied enchanted item and moves it to a supplied book. Requires power.

Enchantment Applicator: Serves the purpose of an anvil. Given an enchanted book and an item, consumes liquid Essence to put all compatible enchantments from the enchanted book onto the item. Liquid Essence can be obtained using a Mob Crusher or a Fluid Dictionary Converter. Requires power.

Enchantment Factory: Consumes liquid Essence to add enchantments to items. Can only add level 30 enchantments, with each enchantment costing 3 buckets of liquid Essence. Requires power.

Potion Brewer: Automatically brews potions. Fill it with water and glass bottles. Place potion ingredients in the five green slots. The ingredients will be added to the potion from left to right. The stage that the Potion Brewer is currently on is marked by the black arrow which moves right along the bar as ingredients are added. The Potion Brewer will start a new batch of potions when the output slots have been cleared.

Ore Dictionary Converter: Allows you to convert any item in an ore dictionary which starts with "ore", "ingot", "nugget", "gem", "dust", "block", "gear", or "plate" into any other item with the same ore dictionary.

Fluid Dictionary Converter: Allows Essence (Industrial Foregoing), Experience (Cyclic), and Essence of Knowledge (Thermal Foundation) to be turned into each other. Press the arrows on the input and output sides to select your input and output. Pipe your input fluid into the Fluid Dictionary Converter or insert it with a bucket directly.

Fluid Crafter: A crafting grid that comes with a fluid tank. Designed to make it easier to craft recipes which use a single fluid type (Cake being a great example). Place the recipe in the crafting grid and insert the relevant fluid into the Fluid Crafter. The Fluid Crafter will consume the required amount of fluid from the tank and output the crafted item without emptying the buckets in the crafting recipe. More convenient than having to refill the buckets after each craft.

Storage[]

Black Hole Unit: A storage unit which can hold 2,147,483,647 of a single item type.

Black Hole Tank: A fluid tank which can hold 2,147,483,647 buckets of a single fluid.

Black Hole Controller: Depreciated. Use v2.

Black Hole Controller v2.0: A sort of chest exclusively for Black Hole Units and Tanks. Can hold up to 12 Black Hole Units/Tanks. Pumping items or fluids into the Black Hole Controller will automatically fill up the Black Hole Units/Tanks that it is holding if there is space available.

Item Splitter: An intermediate block like a hopper which takes items as input and fills all of its outputs with stacks of a customizable size. For example, setting the Stack Size to 13 will have the Item Splitter put 13 items in each slot of its output’s inventory.

Block Breaker: Breaks any block placed in front of it (no silk touch - glass drops nothing; grass drops dirt) and stores the drops in its inventory. Requires power.

Block Placer: Places blocks in its inventory in front of itself whenever possible. Blocks in the top left of the Block Placer’s inventory are placed first. Requires power.

Resourceful Furnace: A furnace which can smelt up to 3 items at a time. Produces liquid Essence as a byproduct. Requires power.

Mob Interaction[]

Mob Crusher: Kills all mobs on the block in front of it. Stores their drops in its inventory and converts the experience into liquid Essence. Add an Adult Filter Addon to have the Mob Crusher only kill adult mobs. Requires power.

Mob Slaughter Factory: Kills all mobs on the block in front of it. Creates liquid Meat and Pink Slime, but does not store or drop experience or mob drops. Requires power.

Mob Duplicator: Functionally similar to a mob spawner. Craft a Mob Imprisonment Tool and right click on a mob with it to capture it. Place this Mob Imprisonment Tool into the Mob Duplicator. The Mob Duplicator will consume liquid Essence to spawn a mob of the type in the Mob Imprisonment Tool. Requires power and liquid Essence. There is a mob cap.

Mob Detector: Emits a redstone signal strength equal to the number of mobs on the block in front of the Mob Detector. The signal only runs out the back of the Mob Detector.

Villager Trade Exchanger: Right click on a villager with a Mob Imprisonment Tool to capture it. Place this Mob Imprisonment Tool into the Villager Trade Exchanger. You can access the villager’s trades in the Villager Trade Exchanger. You can automatically execute trades about once every 1000 ticks (the buffer in the top right must be full to trade). Requires power.

Wither Builder: Input 3 wither skulls and 4 soul sand into the Wither Builder. It will immediately consume the inputs and spawn a wither on the block above itself. Requires power.

Mob Imprisonment Tool: Right click on any mob with a Mob Imprisonment Tool to capture it, storing it inside the Mob Imprisonment Tool. Right click on a block with the Mob Imprisonment Tool to set the mob which is stored inside it free. This tool is used inside various machines.

Resource Production[]

Lava Fabricator: Produces lava when given power.

Bioreactor: Produces Biofuel when given biomass and power. All acceptable inputs can be found by pressing U over the Bioreactor in the JEI. Up to nine different types of input can be processed at once. The more different types of input being used at once, the more efficiently the Bioreactor produces Biofuel.

Protein Reactor: Produces liquid Protein when given meat and power. All acceptable inputs can be found by pressing U over the Protein Reactor in the JEI. Up to nine different types of input can be processed at once. The more different types of input being used at once, the more efficiently the Protein Reactor produces liquid Protein.

Water Condenser: Place the Water Condenser in between two water source blocks. It will fill up with water, holding up to 8 buckets.

Ore Processor: Converts silk-touched ores (redstone ore, diamond ore, not iron ore, etc) into their mined counterpart. If the Ore processor has fluid Essence available, it will consume it to break the ores with fortune. Requires power.

Laser Base and Laser Drill: Place a Laser Base down. Place up to 4 Laser Drills around the Laser Base. Laser Drills must be placed one block away from the Laser Base while looking at the Laser Base in order to connect properly. If placed correctly, a beam of light will connect the Laser Drill to the Laser Base. This multiblock structure will slowly mine for ores. It will mine faster with more Laser Drills. The ores that you can get are dependent on your biome and the y level that you are drilling at. You can set the drill depth in the GUI or increase the probability of getting certain ores using lenses. Place lenses in the Laser Base. Right click on an ore in the JEI and select the Laser Drill tab to see what y levels it spawns at and what lens prioritizes that ore You can also invert lenses so that they decrease the chance of mining a specific ore.

Material StoneWork Factory: A sort of stone assembly line. Will continuously generate cobblestone once powered. There are four “stations”, each with the same configurable options for processing the items at the current stage and moving them to the next stage. Furnace mode smelts the items at the current stage. 2x2 craft mode attempts to craft the items at the current stage in a 2x2. Grind mode grinds items from the current stage. 3x3 craft mode attempts to craft the items in the current stage in a 3x3. There is also a stopped stage where no action is taken.

Some possible processes:

  • Cobblestone -> (Furnace) Stone -> (2x2 Craft) Stone Bricks -> (Furnace) Cracked Stone Bricks
  • Cobblestone -> (Grind) Gravel -> (Grind) Sand -> (Furnace) Glass

Fluid Pump: Place the Fluid Pump above a block of any fluid. The Fluid Pump will absorb all of the fluids of that type directly below itself and replace the fluids with cobblestone.

Froster: Supply the Froster with power and water. Select an output in the GUI with the arrows. Your choices are snowballs, ice, and packed ice. Water and power will be consumed to automatically produce the selected output.

Washing Factory: Consumes power and liquid Meat to transform ores into Raw Ore Meat of that type. For example Iron Ore gets turned into Raw Ore Meat (Iron Ore).

Fermentation Station: Consumes power and liquid Raw Ore Meat to produce liquid Fermented Ore Meat of the same type. Requires a heat source below (fire, magma, lava) and a cold block adjacent to one of its sides (ice, packed ice, etc). For example, liquid Raw Ore Meat (Iron Ore) is turned into liquid Fermented Ore Meat (Iron Ore).

Fluid Sieving Machine: Consumes power, liquid Fermented Ore Meat, and sand to produce the final product of the Ore Meat. For example, liquid Fermented Ore Meat (Iron Ore) produces Pulverized Iron. This three step process (Washing Factory to Fermentation Station to Fluid Sieving Machine) triples the output of the input ore. For example, putting one iron ore into the Washing Factory, moving the liquid Raw Ore Meat (Iron Ore) to the Fermentation Station, and moving the liquid Fermented Ore Meat (Iron Ore) to a Fluid Sieving Machine will produce 3 pulverized iron which of course can be smelted into 3 iron ingots.

Items[]

Meat Feeder: While the Meat Feeder is in the player’s inventory with some liquid Meat in it, it will automatically fill your hunger bar. Fill it with liquid Meat by placing it in one of the fluid slots of a machine that produces liquid Meat.

Straw: Hold right click with the straw in hand while looking at a fluid to drink it. This has various different effects based on the fluid you consume. I do not recommend drinking lava.

Infinity Drill: A drill which gets upgraded as energy is put into it. The easiest way to get started charging your drill is with a Wireless Charger from the Chargers mod. The fastest way to charge your drill is with the wireless charging from Flux Networks. The following is a list of tiers and their energy requirements:

  • 1x1x1: default
  • 3x3x1: 4,000,000 RF
  • 5x5x1: 16,000,000 RF
  • 7x7x1: 80,000,000 RF
  • 9x9x1: 480,000,000 RF
  • 11x11x1: 3,360,000,000 RF
  • 13x13x13: 9,223,372,036,854,775,807 RF

Left click with the drill in hand to drill blocks, consuming power. The Infinity Drill can use Biofuel much more efficiently than power so you can fill it with Biofuel to try and reserve power while using it. Shift right click with the Infinity Drill in hand to change the drill area. The Infinity Drill can be enchanted.

Pink Slime: A variant of slime ball which drops from Pink Slimes. Pink Slimes spawn in liquid Pink Slime, which can be obtained using the Mob Slaughter Factory.

Range Addon: Place in the addon slot of some machines to extend their range.

Fortune Addon: Enchant with fortune/looting and place in a compatible machine’s addon slot to apply fortune to its outputs.

Itemstack Transfer Addon: There are two types of Itemstack Transfer Addons; Push and Pull. Place these Transfer Addons in the addon slot of a machine to automatically pull items from an adjacent inventory into the machine, or push items from the inventory of the current machine to an adjacent inventory. Switch the direction that the Itemstack Transfer Addon pushes/pulls by right clicking with the Transfer Addon in hand to cycle through the options or shift right click the side of the machine. Can be enchanted to increase item transfer speed. Removes the need for hoppers or pipes when taking input/giving output.

Upgrades: Tesla Core Lib Energy Upgrades and Speed upgrades can be added to Industrial Foregoing machines to upgrade them. Tier I upgrades have to be added before Tier 2 upgrades, but once they are added, the Tier I upgrade can be removed from the machine.

Conveyor Belts[]

Conveyor Belts are flat platforms which slowly move in the direction the player is looking when placing the Conveyor Belt. These moving platforms move both items and mobs and can be upgraded:

  • Extraction Conveyor Upgrade: allows this segment of the Conveyor Belt to extract items from an any adjacent inventories
  • Insertion Conveyor Upgrade: moves items which flow into this segment of the Conveyor Belt into adjacent inventories.
  • Detection Conveyor Upgrade: this segment of the Conveyor Belt scans for items which are in the filter (configurable) and emits a redstone signal when an item that satisfies the filter passes over. Mobs can be added to the filter using Mob Imprisonment Tools.
  • Bouncing Conveyor Upgrade: throws items and mobs that pass over this segment of the Conveyor Belt high into the air
  • Dropping Conveyor Upgrade: drops items which pass over this segment of the Conveyor Belt through the ground
  • Blinking Conveyor Upgrade: teleports items which pass over this segment of the Conveyor Belt some distance forwards (configurable)
  • Splitting Conveyor Upgrade: distributes items and mobs across multiple different paths (forks) in the Conveyor Belt. Place multiple Splitting Conveyor Upgrades on a single segment facing different directions. The Splitting Upgrades can be configured to let certain proportions of items through each direction (sending 1/3 one way and 2/3 the other for example)
  • Glowstone Dust: right click on any Conveyor Belt segment with glowstone dust to increase its speed
  • Plastic: right click on any Conveyor Belt segment with plastic to prevent items from being picked up while on that Conveyor Belt segment.
