We had a sandwich night for our Wednesday night Bible study group back in October. I served all the fixings for sandwiches but Pepperoni Pizza Crescent Snacks were also on the menu. This appetizer uses only five ingredients: refrigerated crescent rolls, pizza sauce, pepperoni slices, sliced mushrooms and mozzarella cheese That’s it. There’s enough pizza sauce left over in the jar so you can dip the snacks into it, too. That’s an excellent way to serve this tasty finger food.

These creative and easy snacks are really terrific for tailgating parties, potlucks and easy weekend snacks for your family. They’re like mini-pizzas but so much quicker to toss together than regular pizza. Plus, who doesn’t enjoy simple finger foods that taste great?

I do recommend that you purchase real pizza sauce for the recipe rather than trying to substitute marinara or spaghetti sauce which is a lot thinner. Spaghetti sauce will drain out of the crescents too easily and not hold its shape like the thicker pizza sauce does. It also has a richer flavor than most store bought spaghetti sauces.

Pepperoni Pizza Crescent Snacks is a delightful Gooseberry Patch recipe that’s perfect for New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day celebrations. It’s also outrageously good for the Super Bowl and other parties where appetizers are served. Enjoy.

Unroll crescent rolls into individual triangles.

Spread each triangle with Pizza Sauce.

Place sliced pepperoni over top of Pizza Sauce.

Place sliced mushrooms over top of pepperoni slices.

Sprinkle about a tablespoon of shredded mozzarella cheese over top.

Roll up the triangle from the widest side first.

Place crescent snacks on ungreased baking sheet.

Bake at 375 degrees for 18-25 minutes until crescent rolls brown and are no longer doughy.

Equipment

  • 1 large cookie sheet pan

  • 1 bread board

  • measuring spoons

  • spoon or knife for spreading pizza sauce

Ingredients

  • 16 oz. cans refrigerated crescent rolls (two 8-ounce cans)
  • 14 oz. jar pizza sauce
  • 5 oz. pkg. pepperoni sliced, (3/4 cup)
  • 6.5 oz. jar mushrooms sliced, (3/4 cup)
  • 1 cup Mozzarella cheese shredded

Instructions

  • Unroll crescent rolls into individual triangles.

  • Place on large breadboard or other clean surface.

  • Spread pizza sauce over top of each crescent triangle.

  • Top with slices of pepperoni and sliced mushrooms.

  • Sprinkle Mozzarella cheese on top.

  • Roll up crescent rolls into crescent shapes.

  • Place on ungreased baking sheet.

  • Bake at 375º for 18-25 minutes or until the rolls are golden brown and cheese is bubbly.

  • Serve immediately.

Notes

NOTE: Serve with warmed pizza sauce (You will only need half a jar for the actual recipe).

NOTE: I used about 1 tbsp. pizza sauce, three to four pieces of pepperoni, a sprinkling of mushrooms and about ½ to 1 tbsp. mozzarella on each triangle.

NOTE: Use Pizza Sauce for this recipe rather than spaghetti sauce. It’s much thicker and won’t ooze out of the crescents as easily as spaghetti sauce.
