    We're off.

Tonight's abandonment leaves England and Pakistan with one last warm-up match before they fly to the T20 World Cup.

That comes on Thursday at The Oval. It's an 18:30 BST start again and it's live on BBC Two - fingers crossed we'll get some cricket.

    Until then...

Finally we have news - and it's what we expected.

That quick look was enough for the umpires, they've abandoned the match.

    Guess what?

It's raining again. That was a very quick pitch inspection - the umpires came out, put their umbrellas up, and walked back off again.

There's a pitch inspection at 8:10pm, which is quite ironically announced just as it starts to rain again.

    Cricket, eh?

21:16 BST is the latest we can get on - that would be for a five-over game.

A big cheer from the crowd just took us all by surprise, and it turns out it's because it has stopped raining - which is just as much of a surprise.

They are starting the mopping-up process again, albeit slowly, because there is so much rain on the surface of the covers.

It looks a lot clearer, and the amazingly patient fans that have stayed may be rewarded with a miracle, though if we do get on, the overs will be quite significantly reduced.

Management have informed me that I can't keep trying to force our broadcast teams onto antiquated, disaster-prone aircraft.

    Things are escalating.

I've just had a giant Zeppelin land in Bute Park and am going to see which member of the BBC team in Cardiff fancies being sent right into the heart of the storm.

There is actually a sequel to Twister coming out this summer, but as far as I'm aware it doesn't feature any mention of Sophia Gardens, so why would anyone care?

This is the stuff - who needs a rain radar?

Everyone reading this in south Wales, get outside weather watching.

We'll station you all along the Gower peninsula, watching the clouds sweeping up the Severn estuary.

It'll be like an extremely inadequate sequel to the film Twister.

Just in case you were wondering, we've had no suggestion that they're any closer to removing the covers.

Maybe they'd have started had they not read Jack's latest text...

You Need to roll up the pitch, Aaitif (18:52), and take it across the Taf to the Millennium Stadium, and then close the roof!

What’s the latest the match can start in Cardiff? Looks like the rain passes just after 8pm.

They shouldn't make anymore cricket stadiums until they put roofs on the existing ones.
